The Prophetic Sisterhood

In 1893, Florence Buck and Marion Murdoch became the first two women to serve as Unitarian ministers in Cleveland. As we worship together, we will learn more about these wonderful women.

Rev. Buchanan is the Minister of Religious Education for the First Unitarian Church of Cleveland in Shaker Heights. He and Rev. Bossen are doing a pulpit exhcange this month and REv. Bossen will be preaching at First Church on April 6.

Haggadah

The word Haggadah is Hebrew for "telling." A Haggadah is used as a guide for the Passover service. Passover, or Pesach, is a spring holiday to celebrate liberation from bondage in Egypt. In this service, we will tell the story of Passover and explore what it has to teach us today about liberation, resistance and the power of the human spirit.

God of the Oppressed

Selected comments from sermons by the Rev. Jeremiah Wright, Barack Obama's former pastor, made headlines in March, as did a speech on race that Obama gave in response to media attention on Wright. Rev. Wright is a black liberation theologian. In this service, we will explore black liberation theology (which argues that God stands on the side of the oppressed), the state of race relations in America and what might be necessary to heal some of the country's long-standing racial wounds.
